The pterional approach is the most commonly used craniotomy to access the anterior fossa, middle fossa, frontal and temporal lobes, as well as the Sylvian fissure. It is the routine approach for the surgical treatment of cerebral aneurysms, brain tumors in the frontotemporal region, and the chiasmatic region. Participants will have the opportunity to practice this “workhorse” approach, including the exact site for the incision, proper placement of the trepanations, removal of the craniotomy, opening of the dura mater and the Sylvian fissure, as well as learning the anatomical relationships of the neurovascular structures in the aforementioned regions.
